We the People - 225 Years Later
Constitution Day, Sept. 17, 1787 — 225 years!
Celebrate the ratification of the U.S. Constitution
September 17 is here! ABOTA has a number of resources for Constitution Day. ABOTA has created 10 lesson plans on the Constitution that can be taught in one classroom period. They are available to download from the Scholastic web site at www.scholastic.com/americanjustice.
(There is even a lesson plan on the Voting and the Constitution – great resource for this election year!)
ABOTA members will participate in the Constitution Hall Pass online chat hosted by the National Constitution Center from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. (EDT) on September 17. Teachers and students can log in and join the conversation about the history and evolution of the American Presidency at www.constitutioncenter.org/constitutionday.
Students throughout the country will be attending one of ABOTA’s James Otis Lectures on or around September 17:
• Palm Beach, Fla., Sept. 14
• Austin, Texas, Sept. 17
• Boston Sept. 17
• Columbia, S.C., Sept. 14
• Tampa Bay, Sept. 20
• Baton Rouge, La., Sept. 20
• Miami, Sept. 20
• Jacksonville, Fla., Sept. 27
Named for an early patriot lawyer, the James Otis Lectures feature distinguished presenters in conversation with high school students and teachers on current constitutional topics. For locations and times, please contact Brian Tyson, Executive Director, at briant@abota.org or (214) 871-7523.
Please share these resources. They are excellent – and free!
